City launches Building Belton townhall series
Published on February 11, 2025
Join the City of Belton and its Community Development as we launch the first in a series of townhall over the next year that aims to gain important input from businesses and residents on ways we can better support development in our City.
The first town hall, Building Belton: updating land use & zoning to better support business expansion, will be held Wednesday, Feb. 26 from 4-6pm. The event will held as an open house, but staff will be making a brief presentation at 4:15pm.
"As Belton continues to grow, we want ensure that our residents and businesses have a voice in every aspect of this process," City Planner Jenna Fernandez said. "This is just the first step in many more to address issues that many feel have hindered our ability to fully support our local businesses.
Land use and zoning play an integral part in determining what types of businesses can locate in a specific piece of property. These rules ensure that neighboring businesses compliment one another and there uses (or final tenants) do not conflict with any surrounding residential development or other uses.
In 2024, the City developed and adopted the Belton Comprehensive Plan 2050. This document, adopted by the Planning Commission and City Council, outlines the priorities and goals when it comes to development and growth in Belton for the next 20 years. The Building Belton townhall series looks to updates City ordinances, the Unified Development Code and other documents to bring them into alignment with those goals and priorities.
